Leigh brings to the Alumnae Association Board of Governors a unique set of work experiences, ranging from time spent in Colorado at a wolf sanctuary to eight years spent in Africa in the travel and safari industry to running a business today in the US.
Now a resident of Portland, ME, Leigh founded Steele Management, a company that manages impactful programs for a global clientele focusing on executive leadership education and conflict resolution.
Leigh lived in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Mozambique, and other African nations while traveling and later working in the safari and travel business. “My daughter, Madeleine, was born there. We decided to return to the United States when she was 4½ and getting ready to start school,” Leigh recalled, “that, and the fact that there were snakes living in and literally dropping from our ceiling!”
In her early years, Leigh was an educational assistant and caretaker for Mission: Wolf in Colorado, which provided a sanctuary for wolves while offering educational programs for the general public about the
endangered species.
A West, Leigh holds a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Maine and did additional studies in Spanish and Art in Mexico. In her free time, Leigh enjoys tennis, jogging, and plumbing the vast depths of Maine’s culinary offerings.
“I am delighted to be working with Westover and the other Governors to help support the School and her students,” Leigh said. “I am honored to have an active role in the Westover community again after so
many years, and for the opportunity to give back to the school and the education that I once took for granted.”
Leigh Steele founded Steele Management in 2013 after several years in the event and seminar management industry in to accommodate client needs and project requests. Their clients include financial firms, executive leadership organizations and philanthropic foundations, among others.
Leigh has worked with international business leaders and organizations on ground-breaking projects and events over the years. Building on her experience from time spent working and living in many U.S. cities, several countries in Eastern and Southern Africa, as well as managing projects in locations such as North Korea, Barcelona and Iran Leigh has the versatility to manage across borders and deliver results.
Working globally and in the US for the past 17 years, Leigh has successfully built up an arsenal of contacts across the globe, and honed communication styles and strategies to effectively work with varied business cultures. She brings a unique set of skills and work experience to client projects. Encompassing both high level strategy and management of the smallest details, she delivers clients' goals on time and on budget.
Now a resident of Portland, Maine, Leigh is a graduate of Westover School and holds a B.A. with High Distinction in Anthropology from the University of Maine at Orono. She has done additional studies in Spanish and Art in Mexico. In her free time, she enjoys tennis, running, and plumbing the vast depths of New England's culinary offerings.
